Currys is on a mission to help everyone enjoy amazing technology. With 24,000 colleagues and 715 stores, across 6 countries, people are at the heart of staying ahead. That’s why their supply chain and services teams in the UK launched the Pitch—a platform to turn frontline colleague ideas into real business impact.
Currys supply chain and services division is home to over 5,000 colleagues—delivering and installing millions of products each year, running the largest tech repair centre in Europe, and playing a vital role in the customer experience.
That same mindset inspired the Pitch – turn your ideas into the next big thing: a colleague-led platform designed to harness everyday innovation from the ground up.
Launched with Sideways 6, the Pitch went from idea to impact in just seven weeks—with 4,500+ colleagues invited, 380+ ideas submitted, and over 100 ideas are already in progress, with 31 delivered so far.
We're already seeing a positive impact on colleague engagement and ROI.
Currys had long championed continuous improvement—but without a centralised platform, sharing and tracking ideas was patchy at best. Most suggestions lived in spreadsheets or inboxes, and many never made it past the first conversation.
“Some parts of the business had homemade spreadsheets, but it was very manual. It needed lots of intervention. From a colleague experience point of view, it had room for improvement.” — Phil Knowles, Head of Continuous Improvement & Skills Development, Currys
As Currys doubled down on its Right First Time strategy, the team realised they needed more than good intentions. They needed a solution that could scale across sites, empower colleagues to contribute confidently, and build a consistent, connected culture of improvement.
From sign-off to go-live, the Pitch was up and running in just seven weeks. The team kicked things off with demos, open sessions, and comms screens—plus branded t-shirts and lanyards to get people curious and talking.
“We weren’t afraid to test and change. We’ve streamlined the process, added new automations on the platform, made the reporting more visual so we can see the ROI—it’s evolved a lot already in a short space of time.” — Samantha Canham
Rather than going big all at once, Currys took a phased approach—rolling out in waves over 12 to 15 months, starting with teams who were already strong in continuous improvement. The first stop: repair centre.
Since then, the platform’s expanded to support functions and home delivery, with more departments lined up. The goal? Keep evolving, keep listening, and make sure the Pitch lands well everywhere it goes.
The platform is only part of it—it’s the relationship and support from the Sideways 6 team that helped us go further, faster.
In just five months, 31 colleague ideas have been turned into action—ranging from smarter processes to sustainability wins and serious cost savings:
“We’ve seen first-hand how small ideas can have a big impact. One change might save us a few minutes, another might save thousands of pounds—but they all add up, fast.”— Samantha Canham
So far, the team has verified a six-figure financial benefit, with another sizeable six-figure sum in the pipeline, and has repurposed more than 3,000 hours to higher-value work.
One of the earliest wins from the Pitch came from colleagues on the ground, who spotted that some returned games consoles were being written off unnecessarily. Their suggestion? Repair them in-house using skilled technicians already in the business.
“It started as a simple idea from someone close to the process—and now it’s delivering verified savings. That’s the power of giving colleagues a voice.” — Samantha Canham
It’s a perfect example of how unlocking frontline thinking can drive real business value—and it’s now fully rolled out.
Scaling the Pitch wasn’t just about getting more users on the platform—it meant making it work for everyone, especially colleagues in tech-light roles like delivery drivers. That meant rethinking access, visibility, and comms at every stage.
"It had to be easy to use. It needed to fit within our Currys IT ecosystem—and have a real clear ideas management journey." — Phil Knowles
There's something really powerful about seeing your idea brought to life. the Pitch made me feel heard and proud.
When choosing a partner, Currys weren’t just looking for software—they wanted a solution that could flex with their needs, support a phased rollout, and offer real partnership along the way.
“We looked at other platforms, but what stood out with Sideways 6 was how adaptable it was. It gave us the structure we needed, but also the flexibility to shape it around how our teams work.” — Phil Knowles
But it wasn’t just the tech that made the difference.
“Is it all about who costs the most or the least? Or is it about the experience you get as a business? Because that can outweigh cost. If you build a strong relationship with your software provider—like we have with Sideways 6—you can roll out the platform faster, add features more quickly, and achieve ROI sooner than if you simply saved £10,000 or £20,000 upfront.
That’s really key—you guys make a massive difference to our experience. You have a proactive, close-knit team that genuinely enjoys what they do, and that makes a huge impact on your customers.” — Samantha Canham
Currys is now focused on embedding the Pitch even deeper into its cost optimisation strategy ‘Right First Time’—scaling access across contact centres, digital teams, and key third-party partners. The goal: unlock even more value from ideas that streamline processes, reduce waste, and improve service delivery.
With thousands of hours already saved and new efficiencies still being discovered, the next wave of rollout is all about amplifying impact at scale.
